NDM News case study: Audience and Institution

1)What are the key statistics relating to the influence of new and digital media?
Since 2013 there has been an increased in the number of people stating a website/app as  their most important news source (21% in 2014 vs 14% in 2013).Almost half (45%) of 16-24's say their most news source is a website/app,up 15 percentage points since 2013 (30%).In this stats it states people(everyone) have said their there most important news source is a website/app as its increase from 2013 to 2014 by 7% more saying website/app is their most important news source. Then the second sentence has a stats that states that from 2013 30% to 45% in a year its had increased of 16-24's said that their that website/app is their most important news source.

Another stats was that 16-24's years old consumed only 27 hours of news on television in the same period, compared to 196 hours for those aged 55 years old. This indicates that 16-24 year old are more active on their phones or laptops receiving their news on internet or social media or even apps. So they don't need the TV to watch live news as those age 55 years old are not on social media or probably have phones.

2) Come up with an example of an institution that has benefited from the changes new and digital media has brought to the news industry. Explain how new technology has helped the institution and try to find statistics or financial figures that support your point.
BBC has benefited from the success of new and digital media as they receive a lot of followers on account and they link a tweet to their website and people re-tweet an click to find out more information on the story.BBC news being so reliable has resulted in the younger generation taking notice and so they follow them on news and suddenly they have taken an interests in news. Then this turned into them having a lot of people having their app on their as they allow the reader to read stories, watch videos and live stream as the app ins credible as it updates every second.

3) Find an example of an institution that has suffered as a result of the changes new and digital media has brought to the news industry. In what way has it had a negative impact? Again, try and find actual statistics or financial figures to explain your point.
