BBC to launch new streaming service in the US
- The BBC is aiming to increase revenues from its commercial arm, BBC Worldwide, by more than 15pc to £1.2bn by 2020. Lord Hall has said cost cuts of 20pc will be required over the next five years.
- Previous attempts to make money online from foreign viewers have proved difficult. The experimental global iPlayer, which charged a subscription, was scrapped in June. It was never launched in the US amid opposition from pay-TV operators who carry the BBC America channel
By this the US will be receiving and watching some British content and see our TV traditions such as match of the day and EastEnders. Programmes that we have had for many years and so they will be experiencing the same thing. The streaming service is a good idea for bbc as they receiving more income by commercials abroad is smart as they don't receive commercial income hear but they still very successful. Honestly in my open the source of income will be good but the view wont be the Americans like to have their won style on things and as Hollywood has seen some of the best programmes and films they set the bar very high already. Also viewers wont understand the culture and the slang in some programmes also the accent some say is hard to understand and keep up with.
